How to Make Purple
"How to Make Purple" is my sophomore album. Released a mere nine months after my debut album, the project is a collection of eight love songs I wrote over two weeks, partially out of spite, after receiving the comment - “Mirabai, you’re a pretty good songwriter, but I don’t think you could write a love song.” The album is full of songs about insecurity and romantic love - about my own personal experiences and identity as well as the infinite relatability of being unsure or unsuccessful in love. Some songs are somewhat satirical, yet all are incredibly emotionally vulnerable, keeping with my penchant for mixing irony with sincerity. "How to Make Purple" is about simultaneously wanting and not wanting. It’s a dialectic. It’s holding space for multiple truths. It’s red and it’s blue and it’s both and it’s neither. Produced over Zoom and recorded entirely in bedrooms and college dorms, my incredible collaborators and I have once again blended folk, rock, pop, and jazz to create something enticingly sweet, smart, and sincere that I couldn't be prouder of.
