Sad Bitch Ukulele Love Song

I used to play the ukulele a lot when I was about 14. I feel like during that era there were a lot of teenage girls singing sad songs while playing their ukuleles. My friends have dubbed this genre/subculture "sad bitch ukulele music." I hadn’t written a ukulele song in ages until summer of 2021 - I was just feeling kind of sad - like I just wanted to be loved and was that so much to ask? I wrote a verse I was really happy with and when I got to the chorus I just went, shit these lyrics are straight out of a sad bitch ukulele girl song. God, I’m writing a sad bitch ukulele love song. Well, I guess now that we’re here we might as well go for it. So, I made the chorus a direct acknowledgment of the genre, and the next day I called my producer and we figured out ukulele chords together over Zoom. I feel like leaning into the cliche adds a needed element of humor and self-awareness. I wanted the song to sound like I was singing it in my bedroom and then being backed up by an imaginary band.
